How to Get Product Managers to Actually Watch Your Videos
If product managers aren’t watching your videos, it’s not because they don’t like video.
It’s because your videos don’t help them make decisions faster.
PMs are overloaded with:
- updates
- feedback
- priorities
If your video doesn’t cut through that, it gets ignored.
Here’s how to fix it.
1. Start with the decision, not the explanation
Don’t begin with:
“So I was looking into this issue…”
PMs don’t have time for buildup.
Start with:
“We need to decide how to handle this case”
Now they know why this matters.
2. Keep it under 60 seconds
PMs won’t watch long videos unless it’s critical.
Short videos work because:
- they’re quick to process
- they fit into busy workflows
- they don’t feel like a meeting
Rule:
If it’s longer than 60 seconds, it’s probably too long.
3. Highlight only what matters
Don’t walk through everything.
Focus on:
- the specific issue
- the key moment
- the impact
Bad:
- full walkthrough of the system
Better:
“Here’s the exact place where it breaks”
PMs care about signal, not detail.
4. Always ask for a decision
If you don’t ask, they won’t act.
End your video with something like:
- “Should we fix it this way?”
- “Do we support this case?”
- “Which option do you prefer?”
This turns your video into an action, not just information.
5. Respect their time
PMs are constantly context-switching.
If your video:
- takes too long to understand
- doesn’t get to the point
- doesn’t lead anywhere
…it will be skipped.
Make it:
- fast
- clear
- actionable
6. Use video only when it adds clarity
Don’t use video for everything.
Use it when:
- something is hard to explain in text
- visual context matters
- there’s ambiguity
Skip it when:
- it’s a simple update
- a quick answer is enough
This keeps your videos valuable.
Simple format that works every time
Use this:
- State the decision needed
- Show the issue (briefly)
- Ask for input
That’s it.
Why PMs actually start watching your videos
PMs don’t ignore videos.
They ignore things that don’t help them move forward.
When your video:
- gets to the point
- shows what matters
- asks for a decision
…it becomes useful.
And useful things get watched.
